Eat, drink and play – indoors or outdoors – at Appalachian Mountain Brewery’s Taproom & Kitchen in Mills River. It’s a fun brewery known for an extensive selection of award-winning beers, full menu featuring local cuisine, ample seating indoors and an outdoor beer garden with covered seating, corn hole area and music stage. Based in Boone, NC, AMB chose Mills River for its second tasting room based on the area’s clean water, expanding beer scene and proximity to Pisgah National Forest.
Enjoy European-style ciders in a renovated 1920s barn in the midst of an apple orchard. The cider is made from local North Carolina apples, as well as from apples picked from trees that have been transplanted from the Normandy region of France. Appalachian Ridge also makes pommeau, a blend of cider and apple brandy. On weekends, live music often takes place on the back deck and food trucks make regular appearances.
Bear Falls Wine Company’s downtown Hendersonville tasting room offers a relaxed, yet upscale, environment for enjoying a glass of wine. The Bear Falls tasting menu offers a variety of wines produced in nearby Saluda from grapes grown in North Carolina’s Yadkin Valley. Also available are wine slushies, hard cider and beer.
Bold Rock is one of the nation's largest craft cideries. It takes advantage of Hendersonville's abundance of apple orchards to produce a popular lineup of hard ciders, ranging from dry to sweet, along with several seasonal offerings. Also available on tap is a selection of local and regional craft beers. Bold Rock's spacious, state-of-the-art tasting room includes windows overlooking the production facility, a permanent food truck, cider garden and indoor and outdoor stages for regular live music. The cidery is both family-friendly and pet-friendly.
Boodas Brewing Company is an excellent brew pub that boasts its own brick-and-mortar kitchen. Boodas has a rotating selection of 24 brews showcasing its own craft beers and a curated selection of guest taps. The taproom has seating indoors and outdoors, with a pet-friendly covered outdoor patio. Boodas’ kitchen menu offers a variety of options, from burgers and nachos to a charcuterie board to loaded potatoes. Conveniently located in downtown Hendersonville.
A family-owned brewery in the heart of Mills River, Burning Blush features a rotating selection of a dozen highly crafted ales served in the appropriate glassware for each style of beer. It’s a place where traditional beer treads on experimental options, all in a Gothic atmosphere inspired by Edgar Allen Poe. Munch on offerings from local food trucks while relaxing in the spacious climate-controlled taproom or large outdoor beer garden. Burning Blush is both family-friendly and pet-friendly. Burnshirt produces a large selection of quality wines that have captured many national and international awards. Wines are made from 100% estate-grown grapes at two vineyards, which are among the highest elevation vineyards on the East Coast. Be sure to try the apple wine crafted from local Henderson County apples. The tasting room is popular with indoor and outdoor seating, and often offers live music. Across from the tasting room is The Vintner’s Table, a farm-to-table restaurant emphasizing fresh ingredients with a Mediterranean flare. The restaurant serves cocktails and beer, in addition to Burntshirt wines.
The Cider Barn at Jeter Mountain Farm is open seasonally from mid-July through October. It serves a tasty lineup of five hard ciders produced in-house from apples grown on the 411-acre farm. Guests can purchase a pint, a flight, a tasting experience at the bar or a four-pack to go. The farm offers other activities, such as apple, berry and flower picking, hayrides, a food truck, coffee shop, farm market and fresh cider doughnuts.
On the southern edge of downtown Hendersonville, Dry Falls converted an old auto body shop into an industrial-chic taproom serving approachable beers created by a father-son brewing team. Craft beer lovers flock to Dry Falls where guests can grab a pint or choose their own personal flight, then order from the rotating food truck parked out front and settle into a pleasant tasting experience.
Guidon Brewing is a veteran-owned, American-German brewery dedicated to the art of brewing high quality beer. The owners’ combined knowledge of first-rate food and beverages from around the world drives a passion to provide customers with the same excellence they’ve come to know and love. The welcoming atmosphere features an indoor loft with couches and comfortable chairs, a large outside deck and a game room.
The outpost is Guidon’s second location, a rustic taproom at Elijah Mountain Gem Mine. Just like the original location, Guidon Brewing Outpost 1 is a veteran-owned, German-American brewery. Guests choose from Guidon beers, as well as wines and local ciders. Together, the outpost and gem mine comprise a pet-friendly Basecamp that includes outdoor fire pits, a food truck, gem mining, shopping, a goat barn, an aviary and an outdoor adventure area for children.
Johnson’s Legacy Vineyard honors a longstanding tradition of agriculture and craftsmanship, rooted deeply in North Carolina’s fertile soil. Surrounded by panoramic views of rolling vineyards and the Blue Ridge Mountains, this estate winery offers a serene and scenic setting for wine enthusiasts. The carefully curated wine selection includes Samiam, Blue Bird, Vidal Blanc, and Traminette—each reflecting a commitment to quality and heritage.
M & T Distilling believes in producing small batch, high-quality moonshine and other spirits in a process that honors the heritage of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Each batch is made in an all-copper still, using locally grown corn to produce 100-proof straight corn moonshine. Tours, tastings from a selection of flavored moonshines, and featured cocktails are available in the tasting room. M&T is located in the Historic Seventh Avenue District, just a few steps away from two breweries – Southern Appalachian and Guidon.
Marked Tree Vineyard sits at an elevation of 2,300 feet on the Eastern Continental Divide. The winery offers varietals made from European vinifera and French-American hybrid grapes in a picturesque setting, surrounded by panoramic views. Grapes include Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Grüner Veltliner, Chardonel and Vidal Blanc. Marked Tree is open seven days a week. Guests may choose between an indoor tasting room or an outdoor patio with several seating areas. Vineyard tours available on Saturdays.
Mills River Brewing Co. is located in a rural, tranquil setting near Bold Rock Hard Cider. The brewery is outdoors-focused, with hiking trails on property and a large outdoor area for hanging with friends and listening to bands. The beers, such as Big Creek Amber Ale, Middle Fork Mosaic IPA and Laurel Creek ESB, honor local trails and natural landmarks. The brewery also serves wine, cider and cocktails. Mills River Brewing is dog-friendly, and the taproom is open daily with food service from open to close.
In the heart of downtown Hendersonville, a half-block off Main Street, Oklawaha Brewing is a craft beer lover’s destination. This nano-brewery specializes in hop-forward IPAs, crisp lagers and locally fruited sours, constantly innovating to bring a fresh and exciting beer experience. Beyond beer, Oklawaha regularly offers live music, trivia nights and other events. Sunflower Kitchen at Oklawaha, a café run by the Hendersonville Community Food Co-op, serves a tasty menu of made-to-order burgers, sandwiches, bowls, salads and appetizers. Elevate your wine experience at this beautiful vineyard featuring sweeping views of the Blue Ridge Mountains from an elevation of 3,000 feet on Point Lookout Mountain. The centerpiece is a 4,000-square-foot, open-air tasting room crafted from hand-hewn cedar logs. Adjoining the tasting room is a patio with a large fire pit and spacious lawn for concerts. The winery presents an excellent selection of dry and semi-sweet wines crafted from estate-grown grapes, including Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Riesling. Point Lookout also offers a lineup of six meads.
Hendersonville's first winery, Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards, creates distinctive wines on land that has been the same family for nine generations. Guided tastings showcase award-winning vintages made from 14 varietals of French vinifera grapes. Small and purposeful is the mission of Sawyer Springs. This winery is a family-run operation on land that has been farmed by the same family for six generations. Sawyer Springs produces vintages in small batches served in a rustic tasting barn. Grape varietals include: Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Merlot, Riesling and Muscadine. There is also a selection of fruit wines made from blueberries and strawberries. Indoor and outdoor seating is available.
Surrounded by gardens, pastures and fields, Sideways is a working farm emphasizing the connection between the land and the beer. Many ingredients in the small-batch ales are grown on site. It’s one of a small number of breweries in the U.S. creating carbonation with local wildflower honey in unfiltered, unpasteurized, naturally carbonated farmhouse ales, traditional lagers, and hard Jun kombucha. The tasting experience is much like a winery – customers gather around a U-shaped bar and a bartender explains the ingredients, flavors and story behind each beer. Souther Williams is boutique winery features eight acres of grapes surrounding an upscale, open-air tasting room. The winery cultivates well-known varietals like Cabernet Franc, Riesling and Vidal Blanc, along with lesser-known grapes from Austria, Germany and eastern Europe. These cooler climate varietals include Blaufränkisch, Grüner Veltliner, Regent and Saperavi. The winery is for patrons age 21 and up, and has two vacation rentals on-site for those who wish to stay overnight.
The pioneering brewery in the Hendersonville beer scene, Southern Appalachian has built a strong following at its location in the Historic Seventh Avenue District. The family-friendly taproom has a relaxed, repurposed industrial vibe and a solid lineup of always-available beers and seasonal favorites. Top sellers include the Copperhead Amber Ale, Belgian Blonde Ale and Black Bear Stout. The patio area is dog-friendly (leashes required). Check the schedule for live music and food trucks.
Enjoy a taste of Bordeaux in the Blue Ridge. Stone Ashe’s upscale tasting room sits on a bluff at 2,700 feet in elevation, surrounded by vineyards planted with vines cloned from the Bordeaux region of France. Stone Ashe chose the terroir of the Crest of the Blue Ridge AVA to produce wines for the world stage using classic grape varietals such as Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Riesling. Open to guests age 21 and up.
Trailside Brewing is the anchor tenant in a restored mill in the Lennox Park complex situated along the soon-to-be opened Ecusta Trail, a rails-to-trail greenway. Stop in to taste beers brewed on-site as well as from partner breweries, grab a snack from the rotating food truck, and enjoy live music in the spacious, outdoor beer garden. Adjacent to Trailside in Lennox Park are a coffee shop, food market and café.
Two Trees Distilling Co. crafts a large selection of traditional and flavored whiskies using a method that mirrors and accelerates the process of aging alcohol in wooden barrels. Stop by the tasting room to enjoy a tasting and discover a different approach to making whiskey in a sustainable, eco-friendly way. The tasting room at Two Trees is open seven days a week.
Located at Point Lookout Vineyards, World’s Edge produces mead, a type of wine made from honey. Mead is one of the world’s oldest alcoholic beverages, enjoyed by Vikings, Mayans, Egyptians, Greeks, Chinese and Romans alike. Enjoy panoramic views while sipping a choice of six meads: wildflower & orange blossom, apple, raspberry, tropical fruit, chamomile and chai tea. Patrons can also taste Point Lookout wines and enjoy live music and food trucks.
